Mega-Rare 1964 Mustang III "Shorty" Prototype

There may be quite a few Ford Mustangs knocking around, but none like this. Direct from Ford, there is something different about the 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang III “Shorty” Factory Prototype. Watch the video to see this amazing automobile and learn more about its history.
The nickname for the Mustang, which was built for Ford by Dearborn Steel Tubing Industries in the mid-1960s, describes it accurately. This Mustang is 16 inches shorter than the standard Mustang. It also has but two seats. This wild version of the Mustang never went ahead into full production.

Under the hood is a 302-cubic-inch motor with three carburetors. That part of the Mustang is the same as production models, but from the firewall to the rear of the vehicle, the panels are unique, although similar to other Mustangs. The body of this prototype Mustang was made from fiberglass. Watch the video to see the distinctive Mustang rear light setup in particular, as the “Shorty” does look significantly different to other Mustangs of that year.
According to Auctions America, it is a rare car with a rare history; it was stolen, recovered, sold, out of sight for decades, and then restored and recently put up for auction for $511,500. That is one expensive Mustang.
