Classic drag race: 1969 L88 427 Corvette vs 1972 Oldsmobile 442 W30

Ah, there's nothing better than the fresh smell of rubber on the road in the morning as two powerful muscle cars battle head-to-head in a drag race. Well, what if the vehicles in question were ultra-rare, like this '69 L88 Corvette and '72 W30 Oldsmobile 442? Even better!
To be honest, if I were the owner of one of these raucous animals, I'd be scared to take it out from under its cover in the garage, lest it gets a scratch. Only 116 L88 Corvettes were made in 1969, and only 772 Oldsmobiles with the W30 package were ever produced. So, you've got to hand it to these guys, racing their rare treasures for fun and our amusement.

According to The L88 Corvette, only 216 of the super high-performance L88 Corvettes ever rolled off the production line. It was a special order choice, kitted out with some heavy-duty race performance equipment. Start with a 427 cubic-inch competition engine. Add power brakes, four-speed transmission, racing suspension, transistor ignition and that awesome L88 hood, and you've got yourself one of the coolest muscle cars ever made.
The Oldsmobile featured is no slouch either. The muscle car era was declining by the 1970s, but real enthusiasts could still order the W30 package with their 442 from Oldsmobile, which had the great 300-hp L77 455 engine and dual exhausts.
So, check them out in this video below. Who will win? It’s going to be tight between these powerhouses. Share if you’re a fan!
