Peek under the hood of classic 1970 455 stage 1 GS Buick. It has a monstrous 510 lb-ft of torque

As American as baseball and apple pie, Buick’s 1970 Gran Sport X Stage 1 is a gearhead’s dream. In the awesome video by nedaCFilms/Mustang-Town below, you can get a close-up look in loving detail at one of the greatest American muscle cars of all time. See it in action as it cruises down the road, leaving lesser vehicles in the dust.
This limited edition is one of just 118 GSX Stage 1s produced, and under the hood it was outfitted with a Stage 1 455 360-hp big block V8 with 510 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm, 4-speed transmission (automatic or manual available), and power steering and brakes, according to Hemmings.

This high performing muscle car was a ferocious and colorful powerhouse. It is arguably the greatest Buick engine ever built. The Stage 1 package also featured a radical cam profile, higher flow heads and higher carburetion. It was available in two colors: Saturn Yellow, and Apollo White, which is featured in the video.
The car was decked out with front and rear spoilers, contrast accent black body striping outlined in red pin stripes, heavy-duty suspension, larger Goodyear Polyglas tires and a matte black hood mounted tachometer. The interior featured black bucket seats, floor shifter, center console, Sonomatic sound system, optional AC, and tinted glass.
The Buick 455s, including the Stage 1s, were subject to issues with the engine blocks due an undersized oiling system that couldn’t handle high rpm use. Thin walls in the lifter valleys promoted cracking.
Restored Buick 1970 Gran Sport X Stage 1s have sold at auction for as much as $165,000. Check out the great video below, and share if you like it.
