The future of trucking is upon us. Nikola One, the world’s first hybrid electric class-8 semi will be unveiled by Nikola Motor Company on December 2, 2016. The Nikola Motor Company designer of hybrid automobiles is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The futuristically-styled natural gas-electric hybrid has nearly zero emissions, zero idle, 3,700 ft-lbs of torque, 2,000 horsepower, and can pull up to 80,000 pounds. The Nikola One can go more than 1,200 miles without a stop as the turbine charges the batteries automatically while driving, so it doesn’t need to be re-fueled so often.

It is one of the best-looking semis you’ll ever see. Nevertheless, it has more than just a modern exterior going for it; the all-new interior offers a 15-inch touchscreen where the driver can control almost all of the vehicles functions. It has a Bluetooth-enabled phone radio and support for USB audio devices. Real time traffic is offered from Google Maps. The trucks are also installed with multiple high definition cameras that give you 360 views, perfect for backing up. It includes Wi-Fi, 2 full-sized beds, a full-size freezer and a 40” LED TV among its amenities.
The Nikola One has a price tag between $350,000 and $415,000 depending on the options selected, but it also has a lease option at $5,000 per month with unlimited miles, fuel, servicing and warranty.

NMC is currently taking reservations for the new truck for a $1,500 refundable deposit. Current estimates of pre-order sales are over 7,000. Driving the healthy presales is Nikola Motor Company’s bargain of a pre-order fuel agreement for the first 5,000 trucks ordered. The agreement offers “free fuel” for the first 1,000,000 miles, and it will be delivered to the trucks filing up at a NMC filling station found in each state. NMC believes the fuel savings will offset 100% of the Nikola One’s cost, as stated in their press release.
