American muscle cars left to rot in Japan (watch video)

Lovers of American muscle cars – look away now. Daniel O’Grady of WasabiCars came across a junkyard in Japan brimming with some of the best old American muscle ever made, sadly left to rot and rust.
Some of the poor vehicles forgotten in this car graveyard include a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, two Mustang Mach 1s and multiple Camaros from 1969 and 1970, including a 1970 split-bumper Chevrolet Camaro Z28.

The split-bumper 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, sadly shown in the video to be virtually un-salvageable, would have been driven off the lot with a LT-1 360-hp V8 engine capable of 380 lb-ft of torque. It cost an extra $572.95 to get this high performance engine (which came from the Corvette), but it effortlessly outperformed the Camaros of the sixties. Its split-bumper look is the most sought-after of the Camaros.
Also seen in the video is a destitute Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It’s hard to tell the year due to the sad state of the car, but there’s a good chance it came from the second-generation line-up between 1970 and 1981. The ever-popular Trans Am was featured prominently in the classic movie Smokey and the Bandit, and it’s sad to think this specimen of American muscle ended up abused and forgotten somewhere in Japan.
