Check out bridge girder erection monster machine

Over the past decade, China has been wowing the world with its fast building of new infrastructure though the use of innovative machinery. Take the building of a huge bridge, for example. Surely we need a load of cranes to set the girders in place? Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company says “不用啊!” (no need!)
Enter the SLJ900/32, a huge machine that’s closer to a train than a crane in design. It’s 300-foot long, 24-foot wide, and weighs a colossal 580 tons. Check out the video for a detailed time lapse of how the device can set bridge girders in place without the use of a crawler or stationary crane.

The SLJ900/32 drives to the last previously placed girder, then slowly but surely extends its strong mechanical arms to the awaiting support platform. The girder is then pushed towards the machine’s front end before being lowered into place.
According to Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company, the company has over 100 similar machines out in the field, powering China’s intense infrastructure boom. In business since 1996, the company got its start on railway bridges but has expanded into road bridges and highways. The company is actively seeking contracts in the U.S. and other foreign markets, so don’t be surprised to see this monster mechanical marvel building the next bridge in your town!
