Get a peek at the prototype of the wicked next-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28, with some sexy new aerodynamics, as it stretches it muscular legs on the world famous track at Nürburgring.
Early in this video, the driver handles the camouflaged car with ease, taking it for a casual spin as we listen to the hum of the powerful engine. However, things get a little more interesting around the 1:37 mark.
The driver enters a challenging portion of the Nordschleife, and it appears he may have locked up the brakes. Smoke begins pouring from the locked-up tires, and in the blink of an eye, the Z28 slams into the inner barrier wall on the passenger’s side of the car.
The Z28 is momentarily airborne and returns to the track before the driver steers it to a grassy area where the crew begins assessing the damage. It appears no one was injured, but there is some damage to the passenger side of the Z28, especially in front of the wheel well. The bodywork did seem to hold up well to the impact, according to Torque News. This full-throated muscle car has earned a rest. It is covered and removed from the grassy area by trailer.
So, apart from solid crash handling, what kind of goodies can we anticipate from the sixth generation Camaro Z28? A peek at the video reveals a hardcore aero kit that includes a shelf-like front splitter building on an already broad front, rocker panel extensions, a large adjustable rear wing, front fascia with canards and a vented hood. The fenders have been widened to accommodate very wide tires on 21” rims with massive front and rear brake rotors. The new Camaro is anticipated to debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
